When i started doing my project, i found it hard to come up with an idea and it took me a while to think of something that i could do that wasn't going to be too hard. My next step was to jot down all my ideas and pick the best one, the one i felt was the best for me was to do a small documentary on 3 people who have had a hard life and get to know them and talk about their experiences. After deciding this, i had to pick 3 young individuals with different problems
My first person was young drug dealer Sam Piper who just at the age of 17 had been in trouble with the police for supplying 12 year olds with weed and other sorts of drugs. My aim was to talk to him about why he does this and see if he can escape from this and get a normal life back.
My second person was teenage mum Lucy Jackson, played by Yasmin Cooper. Lucy is a young mum and gave birth to her first child at the age of 15, 3 years later, i talk to her about what impact having a child has made on her life. Also, i want to find out about the fathers role in this.
My last person is criminal Peter Calnon. Pete has been committing crimes for as long as he can remember. With stuff like petty theft behind him, his future is looking bleak and i chat to him about changing his lifestyle and becoming a much better person for it.
After i had my characters picked out i had to start developing my paperwork which was to fill out call sheets and a shooting schedule. I also had to develop my script which just consisted of my questions i asked to all 3 individuals.
Next i had to start to film each person and make sure that the answers they gave were enough for my research. Firstly, i started off with Sam Piper, the young drug dealer. We held the interview in his bedroom as this is what he wanted. Sam answered a variety questions with some strong answers which gave me enough information. After him, i interviewed Lucy Jackson on her teen pregnancy. Lucy told me about her circumstances in which so got pregnant in and how shes coped with her child. Lastly, I interviewed Peter Calnon on his criminal ways, Pete told me about why he commits his crimes and how he will change.
I found it hard at first to manage everything and fit it all in because of having other work surrounding it too. However, once i got a feel for things i started to find it much easier and managable to work with. The aim overall was to show my audience which is teens, what life can be like if you get into all these types of problems and how you can prevent this from happening to you. If i were to do this again, i think i would try to make deadlines for my work and make sure i can fit everything in and have lots of time left instead of taking too long to complete it.
